Halton Police Trained as Aeryon UAV Pilots - May 10-14, 2010
Oakville, Ontario: Canadian Centre for Unmanned Vehicle Systems (CCUVS) in cooperation with Aeryon Labs presented an Unmanned Air Systems (UAS) training course for Halton Regional Police forensics, tactical, bomb disposal and marine units featuring the AERYON SCOUT UAS.
CCUVS has a nationally available UAS training program in Canada where the essentials of a private pilot ground school as it relates to UAS's is presented along with practical flight training. This includes air law and regulations, flight procedures, aerodynamics, weather, and communications taught by a Transport Canada certified flight instructor. The students also qualify for the use of an Industry Canada Restricted Radio Operators License which allows them to communicate with Nav Canada air controllers and/or aircraft for safety purposes. This combined with flight training on simulators, coupled with hands on flight practice prepares the trainees for real world scenarios. "At the end of the four day course, the operators are well prepared to apply for their Special Flight Operations Certificate (SFOC) through Transport Canada" says Sterling Cripps Chief Operating Officer for CCUVS. "They are competent to operate the equipment and fly in a variety of diverse conditions".
